Dr Worsman will be presenting on From Papers to patients: Putting evidence-based medicine updates into equine practice, and Dr Averay will be presenting on Assigning Risk to Radiographic Lesions
We also have Prof. Simon Bailey from University of Melbourne providing an update on the progression of the DVM curriculum and the evolving role of the Werribee Equine Centre in supporting clinical education.

- Dr Francesca Worsman
- Biography
Francesca is a Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh 2011 graduate. She’s worked in rural mixed practice in Scotland, completed an internship at University of Liverpool, spent time in racing practice in New Zealand, completed a medicine fellowship at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, Kentucky USA, and a Horserace Betting and Levy Board funded residency at RDSVS. During her residency Francesca was awarded a Masters by Research Degree with Distinction for research into real-time three-dimensional echocardiography in Thoroughbreds in training. She became a Diplomate of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine in 2021. Francesca has worked as an internal medicine specialist at different equine referral hospitals and clinics in the UK and NZ before moving to Avenel Equine Hospital in 2022. Her clinical interests include neonatal and critical care, cardiology, gastroenterology and ophthalmology.

- Dr Kate Averay
- Biography
Kate graduated from the University of Adelaide and began her career in first opinion equine practice in Southeast Queensland. After an internship with the Bendigo Equine Hospital, she began her ECVS surgical residency at the University of Sydney, moving during COVID to complete it between Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre and Massey University in New Zealand, passing boards to qualify as an equine surgery specialist. Since 2021, she has worked at the Bendigo Equine Hospital, with a 2025 locum at the University of Copenhagen to broaden her experience — and to escape the Victorian winter.
