Dr Anderson will be presenting on Racehorse Imaging and Clinical Cases. In this presentation the aim is to show how various imaging modalities are used to make a diagnosis in racehorses that are lame. The choice of modality, when to use each type, image interpretation and how to make a treatment plan will be discussed. The use of diagnostic imaging in injury prevention will be discussed with case examples showing where this can be successful.
Diagnostic Challenges and Decision Making – what is important?
In this presentation the aim is to show a range of clinical cases that are common in equine practice. Lameness, imaging, medical and surgical cases are included. In each case photographs, diagnostic images and videos are used to illustrate the features of the condition. The steps needed to make a diagnosis, and the importance of logical decision making will be highlighted. Sit back, enjoy the show, and go home with plenty of practical tips!

- Biography
Dr Brian Anderson is a Specialist Equine Surgeon with more than three decades of experience in equine medicine and surgery. He graduated with distinction from Massey University, New Zealand, in 1986, before completing a Master of Veterinary Science in Equine Pharmacology and an internship in equine medicine and surgery between 1989 and 1991. He subsequently undertook a residency in Large Animal Surgery and earned a Master of Science degree at the University of Minnesota, USA, from 1991 to 1994.
Brian became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in Large Animal Surgery in 1996 and served as a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Surgery at Massey University from 1994 to 2000. He joined Ballarat Veterinary Practice in September 2000 and became a partner in 2003. Since 2009, he has been recognised as a Specialist in Equine Surgery in Victoria, Australia.
A respected authority in equine upper respiratory tract surgery, Brian has extensive experience in the diagnosis and surgical management of respiratory conditions in horses. He co-authored the chapter on the larynx in Auer & Stick's Equine Surgery (4th Edition) and served as the endoscopic consultant for New Zealand Bloodstock Ltd from 1996 to 2000. Throughout his career, he has actively researched, published, and presented nationally and internationally on diseases and disorders affecting the equine upper respiratory tract.
