This lecture provides a practical approach to abdominal exploration in dogs and cats, with emphasis on presurgical work-up, surgical planning, and achieving adequate exposure for a thorough exploratory procedure. A systematic method of abdominal exploration will be discussed to help avoid missed lesions, along with practical biopsy techniques for abdominal organs and lymph nodes. The lecture will also review placement and management of feeding tubes, including oesophagostomy and gastrostomy tubes, for perioperative nutritional support.
