Landmark investment for Western Australian veterinary school

Murdoch University’s School of Veterinary Medicine is set for a complete transformation following an unprecedented $100 million philanthropic gift from Perth businessman Ted Powell.

This landmark donation, the largest ever received by a Western Australian university and one of the largest for any Australian university, will see the existing veterinary school replaced with a 9,600 square metre facility. The redevelopment will expand training capacity by 50% at the state’s only veterinary school and animal teaching hospital. The School currently trains approximately 100 new veterinarians each year.

The design will modernise and expand the ageing school to meet contemporary standards, integrating advanced learning environments, upgraded clinical and research facilities, and sustainable infrastructure.

The redevelopment is expected to take 5 years and will build on Murdoch University’s established strengths in livestock, equine, wildlife and conservation medicine, while supporting the training of more veterinarians to meet community needs in both rural and urban areas.
