Renowned as a key platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and tackling the big issues in pig farming and veterinary practice, this year’s conference is set to deliver another outstanding program.
We’re delighted to welcome Dr Bruce Welch from New Zealand as our keynote speaker. With over 3 decades of experience in pig health and production, Bruce brings a truly global perspective shaped by his work in Zimbabwe, Australia, and New Zealand, alongside his long-standing consultancy with genetics companies and commercial farms. Since 2006, he has advised more than half of New Zealand’s commercial pig farms, guiding strategies in health assurance, disease reduction, and genetic improvement.

Dr Bruce Welch, keynote speaker, 2025 APV Conference
Dr Welch’s sessions will give delegates an insider’s view into the establishment of a hysterectomy-derived high health breeding herd in New Zealand, exploring the challenges, methods, and disease-control outcomes of this pioneering approach.
He will also share case studies on atypical disease expression in high-health herds, including Glaesserella parasuis, Porcine Cytomegalovirus, and Pasteurella multocida, offering valuable insights into the benefits and vulnerabilities of such systems. Bruce’s expertise promises to deliver thought-provoking discussion and practical knowledge for pig veterinarians navigating today’s complex production and health challenges.
