Welcome to all our new ASAV Members! It is lovely to have you join us and I am sure you will enjoy being part of our small animal community. Your committee are planning ongoing high-quality continuous education in the coming months. Watch out for the free monthly webinars and put the dates 23-26th August in your calendar now for the ASAV Annual Conference in Cairns and maybe book a holiday at the same time!
Your copy of Companion should have arrived in the last week. With the new practice memberships we are working on not sending multiple copies to the same address and ways of opting out if you do not want a hard copy . The ASAV Committee feel that it is still important to have something you can hold and put in staff rooms to keep you informed. I find the featured members and the accredited hospital articles inspiring. The information in print about the CVP Short Courses is also particularly useful.
Regarding inspiring there is plenty of time to start thinking about the 2027 Roger Clarke Practitioner of the Year Award. You must know a colleague who demonstrates outstanding service to the profession and the public through academic pursuits, standard of practice, professional profile, altruism or a combination of these components or is a practitioner who has rendered an outstanding level of mentoring, support or leadership to colleagues.
This came to mind on hearing that Dr Terry Collins from Seaforth Veterinary Hospital and a past President of the AVA passed away last week. Dr Collins was our family vet and an inspiring member of our small animal vet community and will be sadly missed. The Practitioner of the Year Award is to ensure that those remarkable small animal veterinarians are recognised.
