Supporting evidence-informed integrative veterinary medicine

Each year, Integrative Veterinarians Australia (IVA) offers bursaries to support research, projects and science-based communications that advance understanding of integrative veterinary medicine. Whether you’re conducting original research, sharing clinical experience or developing educational resources, the bursaries are designed to help bring valuable knowledge to the wider veterinary profession.

IVA Research Bursary

Supporting projects, research and science-based communications that improve understanding of complementary therapies and integrative veterinary medicine.

  • contributes to the evidence base for integrative therapies
  • informs veterinarians about the use, efficacy or application of complementary therapies
  • promotes evidence-informed integrative veterinary practice
  • advances professional understanding and recognition of integrative modalities

Dogs in Sync IVA Integrative Cancer Research Bursary

$1,000

Supporting evidence-based integrative oncology for the veterinary community.

  • investigate complementary therapies used in cancer care
  • strengthen understanding of efficacy, safety and clinical application
  • improve communication of integrative oncology research to veterinarians
  • contribute to the evidence base supporting veterinary cancer treatment and patient care

Sharing your work

A key objective of the IVA Research Bursaries is to support the dissemination of knowledge within the veterinary profession. As a condition of receiving funding, successful applicants must complete one of the following project outputs:

  • A conference poster at a future AVA Conference
  • A webinar for the IVA members
  • Another innovative format requested and approved by the IVA Executive Committee that aligns with the bursary objectives.

Applicants are not required to be members of IVA or the AVA.

Eligible applicants include:

  • veterinarians using integrative therapies
  • researchers
  • veterinary students enrolled at Australian universities

Applications will be assessed by a panel appointed by the IVA Executive Committee.

Applications should address:

  • aims and objectives
  • methodology
  • expected outcomes
  • practical application and relevance to veterinary practice
  • alignment with the IVA Position Statement

Applications should include:

  • project title
  • project aims
  • methodology
  • current status of the work
  • expected outcomes
  • practical application to veterinary medicine
  • proposed format of the final deliverable

Applications may include research projects, clinical case studies, treatment protocols, literature reviews, educational resources or other relevant work.

As a condition of receiving a bursary, IVA and the AVA may use completed project outputs for educational and promotional purposes.

This may include:

  • conference presentations and posters
  • webinars
  • newsletter articles
  • website publication
  • AVA publications and educational resources

Authors will be appropriately acknowledged.

  • Applications open: 1 August 2026
  • Applications close: 30 November 2026
  • Applicants notified: January 2027
