Well, it has been a productive and encouraging period for our profession, with a strong focus on collaboration, advocacy, and supporting our members through a time of change.
A highlight over recent months was the “Better Together” event, delivered in collaboration with the Veterinary Practice Board (VPB) and the Veterinary Nurses Council of Australia (VNCA). This event was a fantastic demonstration of what can be achieved when we come together across all areas of the profession. With over 50 registrations, the turnout reflected a clear appetite for connection, shared learning, and open conversation. We are incredibly grateful to Lawnswood for generously sponsoring the venue and refreshments, helping to create a welcoming and engaging environment for attendees. The success of this event has set a strong foundation, and we look forward to building on this momentum with future collaborative initiatives.
We have also seen the rollout of the new AVA membership model alongside the launch of a refreshed website. These changes represent a significant step forward in modernising how we engage with and support our members. The new structure aims to provide greater flexibility and value, ensuring the AVA remains relevant and accessible to a diverse and evolving profession. We encourage members to explore the new platform and provide feedback as we continue refining these offerings.
Advocacy remains a key priority, and the AVA has recently contributed to the WA Parliamentary Inquiry into “Veticare.” This has been an important opportunity to represent the voices of veterinary professionals across WA and highlight the challenges and opportunities within our industry. Importantly, this Inquiry has helped initiate broader conversations around collaborative support frameworks and the growing importance of a One Welfare approach – recognising the interconnectedness of animal, human, and environmental wellbeing.
We continue to closely monitor developments surrounding H5N1 avian influenza. As information evolves, we are committed to ensuring members receive timely, accurate updates to support both clinical decision-making and biosecurity preparedness.
