The AVA has provided a submission to Biosecurity Tasmania on the proposed Cat Management Plan, advocating for a nationally consistent, evidence-based approach to cat management, that takes in to consideration local Tasmanian factors.
The submission emphasises the importance of clear definitions of cat populations—owned, semi-owned/unowned and feral—so that policies can be appropriately targeted.
The AVA supports integrated strategies combining desexing, identification, education and evidence-based containment, with veterinary expertise embedded in policy development, and stresses that population control outcomes depend on adequately resourced and coordinated programs rather than standalone measures.
